Can't activate my iphone 4s from verizon?

I recently bought an iphone 4s off craigslist. I put my sim card in, selected my language and conected to the internet and it fails to activate and says "the SIM card that you currently have installed in this iphone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned y the activation server. This is a hardware issue with the iphone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or requested that this iphone be unlocked by your carrier " what does this mean? Was my phone previously jailbroken? Will it be able to be activated if i take it to a verizon store? If not, why and how can i fix this issue?

Verizon doesn't use SIM cards, so I'm not sure what you moved over. You probably bought a phone meant for AT&T or TMobile.

You can try taking it to a Verizon store, you might just be doing something wrong.

You are from america or europe and phone is from another. Connect to iTunes and tell it to reset the phone. This will install a system version which will allow you to use iphone in your continent. If it doesn't work take it to shop, maybe they will help. And this does not mean that phone was jailbroken.
