Does the iPhone 5c turn sideways?

How would they prevent you from turning it sideways? If you mean does the screen reorient when you turn it sideways then yes depending on the application. You can also disable reorientation if you don't want to use it for whatever reason.

When I played it with VLC (or others) it plays sideways. Speed is normal though. Then I played it with QuickTime and the vid played normally (Portrait) but the speed was too slow. QT is lagging. It just randomly stopped working. Before you answer please note that I did try Portrait Orientation lock on and off but it still didn't work.
