Dropped my iphone 4 in water

I dropped my new iphone 4 in water, it was about half submerged. It appeared to work fine for a few seconds after, but then the screen began to flash on and off, and then it died completely.
I have dried it to the best of my ability, but don't know what to do as I'm currently at school.
I've recently been writing a story and, due to terrible memory and lack of a computer, the only place I have the near 600 words of that story is on my phone, on an offline app called 'Werdsmith'
I also have a couple of pictures I'd like to retrieve, but if that's impossible I wouldn't mind, I just desperately need my story as I loved the way I'd written it, but I can't remember what I wrote exactly.

Please help me, I desperately need to retrieve the data. That story is my current project that I've been planning and working on for weeks.

Bad news. Your phone is kaput. A lesson in life to look after precious things.

Well, if you've synced it to your computer you can get it back.
If not I'm sorry you've lost your phone terribly sorry.

The worst thing about iPhones are that when you drop it in water or you're far from home without an umbrella and it starts raining hard you'll lose you phone.

Never drop or have water on your iphone if you're planning to get one again.

You have to back up your iphone with icloud to restore your files. Go to Apple Center, i'm sure they know how to fix it.

Get someone to open it up. Dry it out with a hair dryer. Change the battery and the digitiser.

Don't panic yet, there are steps that you can take to try and get your phone working again.

Quick checklist for if your phone gets wet:

Get the phone dry as quickly as possible by toweling it down
Turn it off! Leaving the phone on while wet can cause damage to the operating system
Open it up and take out the battery and SIM card
Pack it in rice or silica gel, and store your mobile somewhere warm, like an airing cupboard
Don't plug it in!
Don't put it in the oven or "dry" it out with a hair-dryer
Be patient… This drying out technique works in a lot of cases

Hope this helps.

  • I dropped my Iphone in water - no water damage showing on indicator? Here is the situation. I dropped my Iphone 5 in the toilet (I hadn't peed yet so all good there). Immediately switched it off, dried it and put it in a bag of rice. This was at about 6 p.m yesterday. This morning without turning it on I opened up the sim compartment to check the circle for water damage (checked online and apparently this is where to check for water damage). The indicator was white. It is back in the rice but I was wondering - when you think it will be ok to turn back on?
  • I dropped my iPhone in water - 3 I just dropped my phone in water about a minute ago(it's 9:25 PST). I hurried up and got it out dried it off as fast as I could. It was working fine until now. It keeps popping up "charging not supported on this device" and also I just found out the sound isn't working! Now I can't even listen to all the money I spent on my songs. Is there anything to help this? I was thinking I can back it up on iTunes? Would that help? I don't know I just need major help please.
  • I dropped my iphone in water and it won't turn on? I dropped my iphone in the toilet about 3 hours ago and right after i picked it up from the water, i put it in rice. The phone turned off by itself and about a few minutes ago i went to check and my phone was hot. So i'm wondering if i should keep it in the rice or do something else?
  • I dropped my iphone in water a few months ago? I dropped my iphone in the toilet a few months ago i let it sit in rice for like a day maybe more. But i need it fixed. Is there anyway i can?
