How can somebody else have the same IP as me?

Okay, so I was getting into an argument on a website with some people, then this other person was like "oh, they're just arguing with themselves", and at first I was like "what?", but they also posted a screen-shot, and what do you know? At least one of the other people has the same IP as me. How is this possible? Also note that I was on an iPhone using cellular data and 3G.

Added (1). Oh, and I should have pointed out that I have been using a fake IP proxy for the past week (securoty reasons). Is it possible that somebody could happen to coincidentally have the same IP as my fake one?

They don't have the same IP as you. That is impossible. They were feeding you full of bull with a fake screen shot.

That might be the local IP generated by your router. Those are same but public IP ar always diffreent.

I don't think so it is possible to have same IP. May be using fake IP proxy showing this error but not sure about this.

If he was using the same proxy you'd probably appear to have the same IP.

It really doesn't matter if you think you "faking" your IP or whatever, your internet service ALWAYS knows your IP regardless of what you do. A proxy will help if visiting a website, etc, but has nothing to do with your internet service knowing your IP and who you are.
