How to activate my iPhone 4s? - 2

I bought an iPhone 4s off of kijiji and I can't activate it as it is locked to a different carrier. (it is locked to AT&T and I would like to use it with Fido. When I put my sim card in the phone it takes a long time to load and then tells me to connect to iTunes. When I connect to iTunes it loads for a while as well and then says: " We're sorry, we're unable to continue with your activation at this time." I'm assuming this is because my phone is locked to AT&Tand i'm trying to activate using a Fido sim card. However, how do I get into the phone to unlock it? I have also paid $6.95 to request an unlock code and am waiting for it but I'm not sure how i'm going to use it if i can't get into the phone to enter it. Help!

Added (1). @AVDADDY: Yes, you would think I'd have thought of that before ; but not knowing much about Iphones I assumed that when I bought it I would be able to unlock it by using a simple online software or by taking it in… After going through all of this it looks like all of the phones that are being unlocked have already gotten past the activation stage, i can't get past it.

Shouldn't you have solved all these issues BEFORE you paid?

Is there anyway I can just switch the sim card in my Iphone 6+ and into my old Iphone 5? If not, how would I be able to activate my old iphone 5?
  • IPhone 5 broke, can I buy a used iPhone 4 and activate it? This may seem like a silly question, but I'm not that informed about cell phone plans really… I've had a iPhone 5 for the past year and a half through Verizon. It broke today. Like full on broke nto covered by insurance… I found a Verizon iPhone 4 for sale for like 70 bucks in great condition from someone on craigslist. If I buy that, can I go into Verizon with it and have them activate it for me and have it be my new phone? Does this make sense?
