How to connect to the internet on iPhone without any data plan and Wi-Fi?

I purchased an unlocked iPhone 5 without any data plan because I will be leaving the UK soon. Even though I'm well aware that using data without any plan can be harsh (I know from my prior experience with my Nokia phone), I want to be "able" to use it on my own discretion and peril in case of urgent situations such as looking for something specific on Safari etc.

However, none of the Apps, regardless of whether they have been created by Apple or third parties, allow me to connect to the internet, unless I'm on Wi-Fi.

I guess Apple imposes its users to be on a data plan to protect them from exorbitant charges when they connect to the internet via cellular connection instead of Wi-Fi. But this does not make sense. As a responsible adult I know what I would be using internet for (only urgent situations) and it is none of Apple's business how much my operator charges me.So, I hope, there must be a walkaround for this. If there's, Please share with me. Otherwise I would be using an incredible phone to its lowest potential until I leave the country.

  • My mom and i got the same phone and same plan yet her internet loads all the time and mine never does? Two iPhone 7+. Same unlimited data plan. Yet literally no matter where I'm, nothing that uses data loads unless I'm connected to Wi-Fi. Yet my mom's internet loads no matter where she is. It's even happened that we're in the same place trying to load the same thing and hers loads while mine doesn't. Yes, I have my data turned on. I've made sure all my data settings are identical to my mom's. So i really don't know what could be causing this.
  • Is there any way I can get a AT&T iPhone without the stupid data plan Honestly, my family is switching to AT&T because we can't afford t mobile anymore. But I want a smartphone, it doesn't even have to be an iPhone, but you can't do that unless you have the data plan! My family can't pay that much more a month. Is there any way? )

I was planning on buying an unlocked iPhone from Craigslist and just inserting my sim card in but i would like to know whether it's worth it or not. I will have access to the internet (through wi-fi) for the iPhone, just not a data plan that includes internet. i want an iPhone because my current phone is crapping out on me and i need a new music device.
