How to restore an iphone that is in recovery mode without using itunes?

I have an iphone 3gs that has gone into recovery mode, however i can't access my imac for the next week. Is there any other way to restore/update my iphone using windows xp?

On your Windows XP download iTunes and follow these steps:

1) Authorize your primary iTunes Account with that computer
2) Connect your iPhone to your PC and click restore in iTunes
if you tried this and it didn't work then try and perform a hard reset which is holding the home button and power button on your iPhone for about 10-15 seconds
