How to set up a standalone LAN broadcasting Wi-Fi?
If I was to be in a location where there was no 3g / WAN Internet availble and I had a camera that could stream to a tablet or iPhone over Wi-Fi… How could I set up my OWN standalone LAN that these devices could use to stream across being completely independent from requiring an Internet connection?
My android phone can be configured as a wireless access point which other devices connect to. Not sure if mother Apple let's you do that.
Thats why It professionals get paid lots of money. Its one thing knowing a few buzzwords to flounder around and quite something else to practically do. So I suggest you get hiring, give someone a job.
Just connect everything up to a wireless router's LAN ports and Wi-Fi connections.
Here's how it works:
When you are connected to a wireless router, you are actually connected to two different networks.
1.) LAN:
Your LAN or Local Area Network connection is your connection to your router. This can be an Ethernet cable or a wireless (Wi-Fi) connection.
2.) WAN:
Your WAN or Wide Area Network is your connection to the Internet via your cable or DSL modem.
A LAN is a group of computers and devices in the same building or general location that are networked together. All computers have to be connected to the same LAN segment.
Without a WAN connection you can't access the Internet. You can communicate between devices that are connected to your home network using either Ethernet or wireless connections.
- Set up a new iPhone 4S but no network connection? I've just got a new iPhone 4S and I've set it all up but my phone doesn't have network connection when it should have as all my family are on the same network and they all have connection. Is there anything I should have done? I remember on my old iPhone I had to insert my number somewhere but I couldn't remember where? Can anybody help me with this?
- Playing minecraft lan on a mobile hotspot? I have an IPhone that can create a hotspot and were at a place where there's not Wi-Fi and I want to play minecraft with my sister but my dads worrying about data. So how much data of our 6gb data plan will be used to play minecraft on lan for one hour?
- NMAP scan shows hosts which are not in my LAN? How is it possible? I used nmap -sP (also with -PA and PR), and it shows 8 hosts up in my network. I know that only 3 hosts are up. How are this possible? One of the hosts it shows is iphone. I don't have iphone at home. Can it be a friend's iphone, who visited us a week ago, still in the router? Or could it be a neighbours ip address. It's private address anyway (192.168.1.x), so I suppose nmap can pick it up from a neighbour. Any clarification on this issue would be much appreciated.
- Is scanning a LAN for devices connected to it illigal? I got this app on my iPhone called Fing - Network Scanner by Overlook Soft, and when I connect to Wi-Fi, it lets me see what devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi. It also gives me that device's IP address and MAC address. Is this considered Port Scanning? Please enlighten me, I don't want to get banned by the Wi-Fi or get that Wi-Fi banned by its ISP. If intent is important, my intent is just to know out of curiosity.
