How to survive an 8 hour road trip?

So this Friday my family is going on an 8 hour drive to New York for my dads college reunion. The ride is going to be in the dark most of the way. This is what I'm bringing in the car:
iphone 4 with games
3-4 library books
Reading light
Nintendo DS with Mario game
Homework
Blanket
Pillow Pet

Ear plugs and blindfold.you'll probably want to sleep a few hours.

It sounds like you are already well equipt for the journey. Since you are traveling mostly at night, use most of the journey time to have a nice snooze so you'll be bright and alert when you arrive in New York. You won't want to miss any of the fun of the Big Apple because you're sleepy! Bon voyage!

Its 8 hours. Its not like you are traveling 3 days.

The longest roadtrip i had was about 15-16 hours. There's no better way than sleeping. Stay awake more than usual the day before going on the trip and have something to read. That should do the trick. Read for 2 hours + sleep for 6 hours= perfect.

My kids like to bring a power inverter which turns the power outlet in the car into a 110 volt outlet. Then they plug their laptop computers into it and they're able to stay entertained for a long time. They can play games, watch movies, do homework, etc. They can even listen to their own personal music with their own headphones.
