I can't move my neck to the left or down. Very stiff. What could be wrong? - 1

My left neck muscle between my neck and shoulder is hard as a rock, while the right side is normal/bit plush.

Last night I realized I couldn't move my head to the left. I had dinner, ate some seafood, went dancing for a few minutes, and then that was it. I carried a small purse on my left shoulder that had a camera in it, an iPhone and some cash. Nothing out of the norm.

I slept, and today I feel the muscle is hard, and I can't move my head down now. I feel like I'm pulling something that's tight. It hurts when I move it toward the left.

What are your thoughts? I don't have a fever. I'm normally an active/healthy person.

Get yourself to a doctor… It's unwise to ask for medical advice from a community of internet users.

It's probably torticollis - inflamation of the sterno-clydo-mastoid muscle! A doctor will give you a muscle relaxant and you'll be fine. However, stiff neck is not a good sign if you have a fever. In either case, you need to see a doctor.

It is exactly what you said it was, tight neck muscles. They will tighten up from time to time as most muscles will. Even sleeping with that side of your head cooled compared to the other side could cause that as the muscles tighten up to preserve body heat. Sometimes you can free up the muscles yourself, other times you need outside help, and here's how to try freeing them up yourself:
Neck:
Place your hands behind your head so your fingers meet in the middle of your neck. Press into the neck with a moderate pressure and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your head as far as you can, then remove the pressure from the muscles but continue holding your head down for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Go to the er, if you got a stiff neck, you could have meningitis, you don't have to have a fever to have meningitis

  • Why do I do this? I'm very very very tired yet I don't want to sleep? I want to sleep because I'm practically blinking and bobbing my head side to side like a drunken man but I just don't want to sleep. I watch tv or go on Facebook or play on my iPhone. And I'm starting to get dark circles. And as a guy I don't wear. Concealer or whatever
  • Where can I buy thin, stiff wire? I'm looking for the thinnest possible wire that is pliable and can hold its shape while standing vertically, possibly while holding a hollow, iPhone-sized, cardboard box.Am I able to find this anywhere? And am I more likely to find something like this at an arts and crafts store or a hardware store?
  • Upper right back pain and neck pain. Is it lung cancer? I have mild scoliosis and spend several hours a day on the couch watching videos or movies on my iphone. The pain comes and goes. I don't exhibit any other symptoms of lung cancer. I have never done drugs or smoke at all. I don't feel pain when I breath in deeply. There's mild pain in my neck and lower skull. Is it cancer or poor posture and scoliosis?
