I clicked a link in a scam text message?

A week ago I got a text from an unknown number that said "Yo 2nd a guy was talking about you on https://monkey.cool/i/mplpzwar I clicked the link and it led to this video chat app to make more snapchat friends. It asked for my age, gender and snapchat username. I wasn't thinking and I gave it. It also asked for access to camera and microphone. I deleted the app after I googled it and found out it was a scam to steal information. Could my phone have a virus or malware? Could they be seeing/hearing me through the camera and microphone? (I have an iPhone 7) thank you

(I have an iPhone 7) thank you If it was an app you downloaded from the App Store you shouldn't worry, Any apps in the store are approved by Apple. If you deleted it they can't access your phone, Camera, Or microphone any longer. Apple has great antivirus software on their devices, Unless you jailbreak the phone or device it is nearly impossible to get a virus.

If for some reason you still feel vulnerable you can factory reset the phone, If you have iCloud set up it will automatically transfer your Contacts, Messages, Notes and what ever else to the newly wiped phone. However since an app was the issue, You will have to choose the option to delete all app data instead of transferring it. But again, I think you are fine.

Apple demands apps to ask you for permission to access certain things, If you only approved access to be microphone and camera the very worst they can do is spy on you. They can't access banking information or anything like that. They could have access to anything on your device: phone number, address, camera, credit card info, bank account details, amazon account details, email account and password etc.
Clicking the link would have run some code on your device. That code could have collected information, or left behind a virus, or both.
Time t reset the device / reinstall the operating system. AND change your online passwords. And change your credit card with your bank.
Is that a lot of hassle? YES - but it will teach you to be more careful about what you click on next time.

  • Will my message be delivered if sent as text message on iphone? My friend said that she was having phone problems earlier today. My message was being sent as an imessage, but I guess she wasn't receiving everyone of them, just getting the notifications that they were sent to her but she couldn't read them. I then responded to her, but it was sent as a text message this time and i have gotten no response. I'm not as much concerned about her responding or not, I just want to know if she will receive the message.
  • I clicked 'Forget this Network' on the Wi-Fi network, and I need to use that network? I'm on iPhone 4, with iOS 6, and like I mentioned, it was an accident and I need to use that network!
  • I accidently clicked forget this Wi-Fi connection on my iPhone? I don't have Wi-Fi anymore, and I don't know how to get the password and stuff… I have the AT&T Wi-Fi, with the little rectangular box thing. I know the name is 2WIRE___, but I don't know the password, where it is on the box, and it also askes for "security"… I don't know what that means? There's choices, for example there's; WEP, WPA, etc.
  • How to report a text message scam? I recently got a text message saying i had one a free Iphone 4S. It said to go to a link to claim my prize. When i went to the site it was just what i thought. They wanted me to enter a contest and agree to messages from "trusted third parties".So i've kept the text message but i didn't go through with anything. Its fraudulent and i want to know what my next step should be.
