I dropped my iPhone in water! - 2

HELPME!

So, I dropped my iPhone in water and it was fully submerged for like a second or two. I took it out, dried it off and it turned on, but the touch screen won't work and I'm really scared. I turned it off and kept it in the charger but I need reassurance! Please

No worries, put your iphone in a bag of rice for a whole day and it should work again. The rice absorbs all the water.

Why people shouldn't have expensive phones… Especially ones who believe 'HELPME' is one word and use more than one exclamation mark for everything.

Sorry to be harsh but its true.

The proper procedure when you drop a cell phone (or other device for that matter) is to remove the battery and place it in rice or silica gel (like you find in pure crystal cat litter) for several days to pull out the moisture.

You need to keep it off of power to prevent short circuits as the water is conducting electricity in ways that may damage the phone.

Apple so thoughtfully making sure that the battery is not a user replaceable part kinda screws us over when it comes to that part.

Step one - Take it off the charger NOW. We can't do squat about the battery, but keeping it on power can damage the unit until it's totally dry.

Step two - Get a bowl and enough rice to cover the phone. Place some rice at the bottom of the bowl, place the phone on the rice and cover with more rice and place in a sunny spot like a window. The extra warmth can help dry the phone.

Step three - Go and find the aforementioned crystal cat litter. Walmart has it here…

Make sure that you get the pure crystals and not the crystal/clay blend.

Once you have the crystals, do the same thing with the crystals as you did with the rice and transfer the phone to that.

Step four - Give it a week before you even think of powering it up again. If after a week it's still not right… Odds are the phone is borked for good. You'll need to get a replacement. Hopefully you purchased the extended warranty with accidental damage coverage. If not, make sure you get it on all phones from here on out.

  • I dropped my Iphone in water - no water damage showing on indicator? Here is the situation. I dropped my Iphone 5 in the toilet (I hadn't peed yet so all good there). Immediately switched it off, dried it and put it in a bag of rice. This was at about 6 p.m yesterday. This morning without turning it on I opened up the sim compartment to check the circle for water damage (checked online and apparently this is where to check for water damage). The indicator was white. It is back in the rice but I was wondering - when you think it will be ok to turn back on?
  • I dropped my iPhone in water - 3 I just dropped my phone in water about a minute ago(it's 9:25 PST). I hurried up and got it out dried it off as fast as I could. It was working fine until now. It keeps popping up "charging not supported on this device" and also I just found out the sound isn't working! Now I can't even listen to all the money I spent on my songs. Is there anything to help this? I was thinking I can back it up on iTunes? Would that help? I don't know I just need major help please.
  • I dropped my iphone in water and it won't turn on? I dropped my iphone in the toilet about 3 hours ago and right after i picked it up from the water, i put it in rice. The phone turned off by itself and about a few minutes ago i went to check and my phone was hot. So i'm wondering if i should keep it in the rice or do something else?
  • I dropped my iphone in water a few months ago? I dropped my iphone in the toilet a few months ago i let it sit in rice for like a day maybe more. But i need it fixed. Is there anyway i can?
