I found a found and nobody called. ITs been a month. What should i do?

I found a iphone 5 and i factory reseted it after nobody called for about a month.
A message from the owner showed up after reseting it and I called that number and texted it repeatedly but no answer.
So i'm thinking of giving it to my sister since her phone broke but its locked from icloud. What can i do?
I have the phones MEID & IMEI number.

- What are my options?
Its a waste to just throw it away.

You have effectively stolen the phone by not handing it in when you found it. You've put the owner to considerable inconvenience and that person will have not only lost some data permanently but may have had to spend a considerable sum on replacing it or at least had to pay an insurance deductible of a significant sum.

Yes, the owner has blocked the phone so it is now useless except as spare parts, but any reputable reseller will want proof of your ID before buying it so if they find it's stolen they can defer police enquiries to you. If you sell it privately there will also be a trail back to you.

Either way, the phone may well have already taken your photo secretly and sent it to the owner along with your GPS location. You've left it very late, but you can still do the right thing and hand it in with an apology and an explanation of your ignorance of the law. Otherwise you face a nervous wait to see when police may get around to knocking on your door.

I love founds where did you get it. I have always heard that they grow on shrubs in north west iran, how did you find a found. WOW that is such a rare thing, i have never found a found on my findings

Take the sim out, get a sim only deal and there you go a free phone yay

Break it. Destroy the evidence

Dude #8, why would anyone call the phone? MOST normal people contact their call phone carrier to have the service suspended and report the phone lost or stolen. What this does is blacklist the IMEI on the phone, and makes it so that no one can activate it on a US cell phone carrier. Also the carrier could have found the owner in about 60 seconds had you taken it to a carrier store.

But you can of course that that IMEI number and plug it in here to see if the real owner has reported it lost or stolen or being financed, your sister won't be able to use it.
