I look really ugly in photos and videos but attractive in the mirror?

I look really ugly, in photos. Like super. One eye is bigger, one side of my face is significantly bigger and my nose looks wide and disgusting. In videos, the same. So, I have a macbook and an iPhone both with the ability of taking photos. A few days ago, I decided to use the mirror effect on Photo Booth and I almost cried at how I looked on the right side. My cheeks looked huge and my skin looked discolored and hideous. When I take photos (selfie type) with my iPhone, on the phones original built in camera, my face looks lopsided and I instantly delete it.

But in the mirror, I look completely different. My face is even, my nose is nice and slim and all of that good stuff.

Does the mirror or the camera lie? I hear from people that the camera is the most accurate while many people oppose and say that the mirror is the most accurate representation of you because, it is in real time.

There's nothing anyone can do. This is way it is for everyone because we're used to reflection, not photo image, which is real image of our face. My advice: stop staring at yourself.

You are used to seeing yourself in the mirror, however what you are seeing is a mirrored version of yourself, which you are used to. So when you see yourself in a photo or video, you are uncomfortable and not used to how you look because you are not being mirrored, if you get the gist.
Photo Booth is a complete lie, not the best thing to use.

Neither lie. The problem is that you are completely clueless when it comes to photography. Both your computer and phone have wide angle lenses. When you use a wide angle lens close up, it will cause serious distortion. This is why real photographers use cameras.

Besides the fact that We see ourselves differently in a mirror than that picture. It also depends on your photography skills. You need to know how to have correct lighting and angles to make yourself look nice. Just learn from practice taking pictures of yourself at different angles and you might get it.

Here we go again. This question must have been asked at least a bi-zillion times in this forum.

You look bad in photos because you are not using the camera correctly. If you hold the camera out at arm's length and take a photo, the lens will have to be at a wide angle view. This distorts your face. Also, any time you have tha flash blasting off in your face, it is going to make you look awful.

To get a decent photo of yourself, the camera needs to be mounted on a tripod, you need to be in good, natural light, (NOT directly under sunlight), the camera lens needs to be at a medium telephoto length, and the self timer used to activate the shutter, … And yes, all that can be done with a basic point and shoot camera if you will learn how to use it properly.

… And when I say camera, I mean a real camera, not a telephone…

FFS - you are beautiful! Ask your mum! Stop beating yourself up.

  • Why do I look ugly in my camera, but not in the mirror? Whenever I look into my iPhone camera I look extremely pale, my zits look extremely red, and my eyes just appear "brown" but when I look into the mirror I look a little tan, and my zits look very small and not that big of a deal, and my eyes appear more greenish and hazel. And no there's no lighting of the room when I'm looking into the mirror it's just natural light. Is it just the camera that makes me look ugly? Or is my mirror wrong and my Cameras right? :/
  • Why do I look so different in mirror photos and iPhone recording? How can I see a accurate version of me like how others see me. I look good in mirrors ok in selfies picture on the front cam and so bad on back cam and recording in back cam. And 100% worse like it looks nothing what I look like in the mirror or selfie when I use the iPhone back cam
  • Why do I feel so ugly on camera but perfect in a mirror? Whenever I look into a mirror I feel like model, Ill be so proud of myself and my looks lol but then Ill pull out my iPhone to look at myself on the front camera and then I look ugly all of a sudden. Like my hair looks different, my skin tone on my face won't match my body, my lips seem redder, my acne scars are like 10x more noticeable… So why is this? And which one is more accurate?
  • Look good in mirror VS look bad in pictures? Why is it that I look perfectly fine in the mirror but when I take a picture with my iPhone i look so bad. I just wanna know which one I look like in person, the mirror or the selfie.
