If I buy a iPhone 4s for Verizon Wireless, would I be able to use the prepaid plan?

Currently, I'm a customer of Virgin Mobile. I have been having issues with getting good signal, so I'm considering switching to Verizon. I can't use any plan other than the prepaid plan, but I would rather buy the iPhone 4s from somewhere other than the Apple Store or Verizon online. Would I still be able to use the prepaid plan on this phone? Also, how would I pay each month? Is there a card I can buy?

Your provider can get you a sim card. That should work. I do know that Virgin mobile does offer service for iphone 4

You can use the iPhone 4 on Verizon Prepaid. The only requirements are that it is Verizon-compatible and not blacklisted (such as if it was reported stolen, the contract was broken, etc.)

If you're going for prepaid, though, I'd advise going with a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that runs on Verizon. These prepaid carriers offer Verizon service for cheaper rates - cheaper than Verizon Prepaid. You can use any Verizon-compatible non-LTE phone that is not branded for Verizon Prepaid and is not blacklisted. The Verizon iPhone 4 should be fine.

Verizon Prepaid and MVNOs on Verizon do not use SIM cards because Verizon uses CDMA technology, which doesn't use SIM cards. You will enter a serial number from your phone into an online activation site provided by your carrier to set up your service.

Note that Verizon Prepaid and MVNOs on Verizon don't include free roaming. So coverage isn't as good as postpaid Verizon. But it's still the best out of the prepaid options.
