If you want to get a new phone before the 2 years are up, you simply pay off your remaining balance and start over with a new phone. Actually, your old phone might have good trade-in value and could pay off your balance.

You would have to do the math, when I looked the end price was much higher with the payment plan or the one place I saw still doing the artificial price. I would shell out the $900 up front and get the SIM-free form the Apple Store 64 gb with Apple Care Accident Plan. I also see where most people would rather not pay right away even if it cost more in the end.
