Is the OtterBox Defender worth the $?

I have an iPhone 4 and need a new case. I know OtterBox is supposed to be really good, but I'm trying to decide if
- I really need that much protection? (I'm not THAT hard on my iPhone, but all it takes dropping it the wrong way one time… )
- Should I sink $50 into a case now since I'll probably upgrade to the iPhone 5 next spring (when my contract is up)
- Should I risk buying an OtterBox from Amazon? About half the price, but I'm thinking maybe you get what you pay for?

I bought one from Amazon for about $15 that works just like the $45 one i can buy locally.

It truly is worth the money. My friend dropped her iphone and her iphone had an otterbox and when she dropped it, nothing happened. At all. It's worth the money. It costs moreto repair your dropped screen than paying ONCE for an otterbox.

It does protect your phone well, as I hear as I have never had one, but if you want a bulky, thick (but safe) case, then go ahead.

  • Would you get the Otterbox Defender or the Speck Candy Shell? I'm getting the 4s soon and I can't decide which of these two cases to get. Perks of the Otterbox is that it has a built in screen protector, it will protect your iPhone no matter what. But I don't like how it's so bulky. Perks of the Candy Shell is that its way slimmer than the Otterbox, and it's shock absorbent. But I'm not sure if it'll protect the phone just as good as an Otterbox.
  • Should I get the Otterbox Defender series case for my iPhone 4? I really like the look of the defender series case, and I like all of the security it provides. So the big question: should I get it? Is it extremely bulky? Does the plastic casing part scratch the phone? Why do you like and dislike?
  • Should i get an otterbox defender for iphone 5? I rarely drop my phone. But i was wondering if i should get one. I don't want it to be to bulky or anything.
  • Otterbox (Defender) or Lifeproof? I need a knew case for my Iphone 4 and I currently have an Otterbox Defender Case and I really like it. But I'm not sure which case/brand is better. I heard Lifeproof cases are awesome, but they are alittle more expensive than the otterboxes. Which should I get and why? What are the pros and cons of the Lifeproof cases and Otterbox cases?
