Is there any hope for my water-damaged iPhone?
I dropped my iPhone 4s in the toilet yesterday. I immediately pressed the unlock button and the screen lit up for a second before the water got in it and it went dark. I tried to unlock again a few times (I know now that this was a bad idea) but nothing happened. I was not at home at the time and the people I was with did not have rice so I put it in grits then I bought a bag of rice and put my phone in a ziplock bag full of it. I then left it in the bag of rice for over 24 hours and I just took it back out and tried to turn it on but it would not turn on. I put it back in the bag of rice but I don't know what I should do now. Is there any hope for my phone? Did I damage it further by trying to unlock it? If so is there any way to retrieve my data from it and at least transfer it onto a new iPhone? Please help!
Added (1). I backed it up to my computer a few weeks ago. How would I restore it if it won't turn on? Will plugging it into the computer potentially damage it?
No you screwed yourself in the beginning. If you would have turned if off when you unlocked it and our in a bag if rice for a WEEK then you would be set. 24 hours isn't nearly enough especially if I was submerged. By unlocking it and giving it power you allowed the water to freely circulate in the phone and most likely shorted out the battery or logic board. The only way to retrieve the data is if it was stored to iCloud or a computer then you could restore it.
If you can plug it in to your computer and it shows up, then you can back it up or something to save the data, but if not its pretty much done. And they have sensors built into the phone that check for water damage so you can't really just get a free one on a warranty claim or something like that either. Maybe take it to the apple store and see what they can do but its probably ruined
I dropped my LG Lucid into the chicken waterer last month, fully submerged. Apparently I can't take it apart, so I took the backplate off and battery out. I shook as much water out of it as I could, then propped it up on its side so the water could drain out the seams in the cover. Took the blow dryer on the coolest setting to it a few times, but mostly just left it propped up and shook the water out as needed over several hours.
At first it wouldn't turn on, then it turned on but the backlight wouldn't come on, then it came on and wouldn't get off airplane mode, eventually after I got the water out it worked fine, still works like it did the day I got it.
Dropped my old Pink RAZR phone in a puddle years ago as well, it damaged the LCD screen but it still worked after I took it apart and let it dry completely.
Grab the blow dryer, make sure it's on the lowest, coolest setting, or you might damage the internal components. The heat might help evaporate away some of the water. Prop it up on its side or straight up, just try not to get the charging jack on the bottom, don't want to risk water damage to that.
Unfortunately trying to use your phone may have caused a short. In the end the phone may be fried. But before you panic, understand that if there's any moisture inside you will have no way of knowing if it'll work until it's completely dry.
How long was it submerged? My Lucid was underwater for several seconds, but didn't seem to get too wet inside.
I will buy it I pay through Paypal I will use it for part Pm me on how much you want
My friend's daughter got ahold of her iphone and dropped it in the bathtub and it ended up being a lost cause. It's very difficult to recover electronics with water damage. A friend of hers told her that if it happened again with her new phone, then having a bag of rice nearby can help. You just put the phone into the bag and the rice will soak up the water. It worked for her once when she knocked her phone into the sink, but it wasn't completely submerged in water. Not sure if it really works, but she now carries a small bag of rice with her wherever she goes.
If you have a new phone, you can connect to iTunes and it will prompt to restore from your backup. Then your data is back to the new phone.
If you are not going to get a new phone, you can also get your data back onto your computer. A third party specific iPhone data recovery software called Tenorshare iPhone Data Recovery can help. It can help you recover data from the computer you synced directly without iTunes and even without your phone! Give it a shot!
By the way, you can get it from https://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/mac-itunes-data-recovery.html
Hope I help!
- Water damaged IPhone 4s. Is there hope? Today I idiotically fell into a pool with my iPhone in my pocket. It was submerged for about three seconds and afterward there was no display but it would still vibrate at messages and calls. I shook the water out of it immediately but I couldn't get it in rice for about 20 mins. I took out thr sim card and managed to turn off my phone and I'll let it sit in the rice for 24-48 hours. Is this just a lost cause or is there actually hope in me reviving my "child"
- My iphone speaker will not work after i water damaged it, is there any fix? I accidently spilled orange juice on my iphone and i thought it was fine as it operated after i wiped it off. I noticed later that i could not hear the other person during a phone call. Are there any fixes to this or do i have to buy another phone out right?
- My iPhone SE went for a swim with me - Any hope? So right now I'm in Outer Banks (beautiful area, my family rented a house with a pool and a short walk to the beach) and I went for a 5ish minute swim in the pool. Then my mom called me in to have lunch, and that s when I realized I f ed up. My family is big, so I had a bunch of suggestions being thrown at me at once, a bunch of them being the bag or rice. We don't have rice at the house, and nobody s gone food shopping yet. Is my phone a lost cause? Any advice would be a great help.
