Yes, but you need to make sure the new model you buy uses the same size sim card as your old one. Google each model and "sim card". If it's a different size, the quickest way to deal with it is go to a T-Mobile store, buy the new one and ask them to transfer everything for you. You might have stuff in the phone memory, and it takes no time at all to do this.

The other reason you want to go to a store is that if you're buying it on craigslist, you can get some great deals, but you need to use common sense. If you tell the person to meet you at a T-Mobile store and they have no problem doing this, they're on the up and up. Otherwise, hang up and move on. The issue isn't just iCloud locks. The other big problem is people selling phones that haven't been paid off, especially with newer models. Unless they have a receipt for that phone, you have no way of telling whether there's money owed on it. The store will see this, though, when they transfer stuff.

I should, as long as the replacement is either, a T-Mobile iPhone or unlocked for another GSM carrier, so that your TMO Sim card will work in it, and once you get it working, edit or change the APN settings, to what the current TMO APN is, so your MMS and Internet will work correctly.
