My iPhone's music library seems to be locked and I can't delete any songs

So, I bought an iPhone about a year and a half ago but soon I replaced it with another phone. As a result, my iPhone had been left unused in my drawer, which is why I agreed to lend it to a friend of mine who accidentally dropped her phone in water until she gets a new one. When I gave it to her, she looked through my music library and clearly didn't like the songs I had in it and asked me to delete them. I was like "OK, I'll take care of that" and I downloaded iTunes on her computer - because you can't delete (or add) songs on an iPhone without using that program. So, I connected the phone to her computer and the music library of my phone loaded. However, I noticed something weird: the letters which made up the titles of the songs had a very fade colour. I didn't really pay attention to that but then, when I selected all the songs and pressed the "Delete" key, nothing happened. I then proceeded to right click on a file and choose the "delete" option from the pop up menu but the only available options were "Play song" and "More information on the song". What is happening and why can't I delete (and possibly add new) songs to my iPhone? Has the iPhone music library been locked? What can I do to undo that?

You should probably just restore the iPhone to it's factory settings. You can do this in the Settings App. Just go to "General" and then scroll down to the bottom and select "Reset".It will give you a few different options, but you may as well just delete everything and start from scratch. However if the is data on there that you want to keep, you can actually delete the tracks using the iPhone itself (i.e. No need for iTunes) so long as it is running iOS5. Just open the Music App to view the list of songs, and then swipe to the left over the top of a song to reveal the delete button.

Hope this helps.

  • In itunes is there any way to select multiple songs to send to itunes library? I just mixtapes from datpiff and the only way i could put it in my library was to select manage songs manually under my devices. I didn't know that it would delete my songs from my iphone to put that on but it did. I only have songs from itunes, not beemp3 or datpiff.luckily all my songs are saved under the music file and its 319 songs. Is there any way i can select all them to put in my library? I know about the hold shift trick but its not working.
  • I bought a iPhone that is iCloud locked but imei seems to be good? I bought an iPhone and they said it wasn't iCloud locked. I checked the IMEI and it said it was activation ready and what not but after I got home and started setting it up, it turned out to be locked. I have no problem with returning it as long as I get my money back but the guy says he's not coming back until Tuesday and frankly I don't believe him. What do I do?
