My Unlocked iPhone 3gs can make calls but not text messages. What should I do?

I work with iphone tech support and when that issue happens it would always be best to check with your carrier to see if there's any outages also you can check to see if Imessage is on… Turn it off and try to see if a message would go through with out it on… Then if that doesn't work(what I always have my cust do) perform basic troubleshooting… Soft reset phone(hold home and power button until u c apple symbol then let it go) turn off cellular data(settings> general>cellular/network>cellular data should be on turn off for at least 10-15s then turn it back on) reset network settings(settings>general>reset>reset network settings it should bring up a prompt tap reset network settings it should power cycle the device) when phone power back on it should say searching in the top left corner give it an min to pick up service then pull up key pad dial in ##873283# call (should say starting service update hit ok it should say complete if it says failed try again with Wi-Fi.

You didn't mention what carrier your using your phone under -- but if you are using T-Mobile, they have instructions on how to fix your MMS capability. These instructions can be found on the
T-Mobile.com website. If you are using your phone under Straight Talk, there are instructions on how to fix the MMS capability, but it requires the use of a T-Mobile sim card, which you can either get one from the T-Mobile store for a small fee or from the T-Mobile website, for like.99, YouTube has tutorials on how to fix the MMS on Straight talk without jailbreaking your phone & swapping the T-Mobile sim with the Straight Talk sim.
