Thats quite normal with some types of display. Provided the lines dissappear within a couple of seconds all is good!

Refurbished by whom? If it was from Apple, take or send it back and they will replace it for free. If you bought it from anyone one or place else and they said it was refurbished, if they did not have Apple do the refurbishing, they just sold you a used phone without a warranty. You can try to see if they will replace or replace the phone, but I have a feeling you saw a good deal on a iPhone that said all sales are final, no refunds.
- Why does the volume bar on my iphone disappear and appear whenever it wants to? I have an iPhone 4. If I try and listen to music the volume bar goes away and when I try to adjust the volume with the + and - buttons the volume bar under "ringer" is gone.
