Should I buy a second hand iPhone 5? Fear of it getting discontinued?

I got a friend who has an iPhone 5 and who isn't using it. It's a 64GB model and really in Mint condition with a brand new sleep button and a brand new battery. He's selling it for a fair price and I wonder if I should buy it or not. He let me use it for a few days so that I can make up my mind but I'm not quite sure yet. It's an amazing phone, despite being 3 years old, I love it but, I fear that apple might play dirty on it by stopping iOS versions on it.

When will it get discontinued according to you?

When will it get discontinued according to you? It's price dependent really, because of course at some time in the future it will be obsolete. But it takes quite a long time before IOS updates become unavailable, so you'd probably get all the use out of it you wanted. Hundreds of thousands of people are still using iphone 5s! But do check carefully on cost and make sure you aren't overpaying for something which may look in superb condition and brand spanking new, but at the end of the day, isn't! Go for iphone 6s Production of iPhone 5 has been discontinued but you'll have iOS updates for another year or so. Even if you get further updates, you won't get all the updates of iOS, just few security updates. Its unlikely that it will be discontinued because there are so many out there. Older phones don't handle new updates as well as you can see from the number of complaints here. Your should be safe for the remaining effective life of the phone or until a must have version shows up your mommm
