Should I get the Otterbox Defender case or a Lifeproof case for the iPhone 4?

I have an iPhone 4 that I've had for a few months. I've only dropped it twice but I still need a good case. I want to either get the otterbox defender case or lifeproof but I don't know which one! I know that the otterbox defender is bulky and its not waterproof and he lifeproof is slim and is waterproof but also shock proof. How is it possible that such a slim case is shock proof? It's like really thin and it looks like your phone will break if you drop it with the lifeproof case. Which one should I get? Tips?
