Trying to clear space on my iPhone. What are Documents and Data?
Hi, I'm running out of space on my iPhone and it says most of my GB are used up by "Documents and Data"… What items make up the Documents and Data category? So what should I be deleting to make room?
Ex; if I had way too much Audio I would delete my music. What's "Documents and Data"?
Bottom line, Document and Data or Other in iTunes is the 'soul' of your phone.
Document & Data or Other is fat and bloat collected over time. On iPhone it's junk files including browser history, cookies, logs, caches of photos and videos, database files stored by your apps. You'll notice that some apps while being very small themselves have accumulated a lot of data. An example of this is shown in the image below, you see that the Facebook app is 109 MB whereas the Documents & Data stored is 1.2 GB. This 1.2 GB is what goes into your "Other" data in iTunes as the 'soul' of your phone.
Where do you think all of this stuff goes? Thin air? Nope, It's the 'soul' of your phone. You've never deleted anything off the phone and that's why it's so large now. You'll have delete as much as possible that you don't need to keep. Make a backup and sync with iTunes. Factory reset the phone. Then set up as a new phone and NOT from the backup or the junk will go right back. Best luck.

- Iphone over capacity because of Documents and Data? Yep every once in a while I get to where I would just love to throw my iphone off of a cliff. So I synced my phone and at the bottom of iTunes on the bar it says not only that my phone is 375.6 MB but that a HUGE chunk of that is "documents and data", 9.84 GB of it. My questions are: 1. What in the f___ is that? & 2. How do I remove it?
