Using a Verizon iPhone 4S iOS 6 for T-Mobile?

So my dad recently upgraded to the iphone 5 and his iPhone 4S is just sitting around now. It's his work phone so it's under Verizon while the rest of my family is under T-Mobile. I saw online that if the iPhone has been updated to iOS 6 then it can't be jailbroken for it to be used under a different carrier. I was just wondering what can be done or if anything can be done so that I can use this phone as a T-mobile device. Once again, it's an iPhone 4S that was under Verizon and it has been updated to iOS 6.

I don't think you have correct information.

Even though all carrier versions of the iPhone 4s - AT&T, Sprint, Verizon - include GSM, and even though all of them can be unlocked to work on other GSM carriers, the Verizon and Sprint versions - once you unlock them - only will work with GSM carriers that are outside the USA.

Or to explain this a different way: the only type of iPhone 4s that can be unlocked to work on T-Mobile inside the USA is an AT&T iPhone 4s.

Also, jailbreaking is an entirely different thing from unlocking. You don't need to jailbreak to unlock and vice-versa. Unlocking simply allows the GSM radio in an iPhone to work with any carrier; it doesn't affect any other features of the phone.

P.S. In case you're thinking about an iPhone 4 instead of 4s, the only iPhone 4 with any GSM capability at all is the AT&T version; it can also be unlocked to work on other GSM carriers inside or outside the USA.

You could find out about getting unlocked seeing as its out of contract. That would be the only way for it to work on T-Mobile.

  • T Mobile or Verizon. Should I pay T-Mobile 175.00 for an upgrade or 94.00 to Verizon for new phone? I want the iPhone 6s plus. I'm already with t mobile but there internet is a bit slow sometimes. Its the jump plan ill get. Ill pay 12.00 for 24 mo. And if i get a new phone they won't run my credit again. But with verizon they'll run my credit. Is pretty good. But i don't want anybody to really run my credit tho lower it. I'm not sure about verizon internet but the commercials looks pretty good. They bboth have unlimited internet. What should I do?

  • How to restore my Verizon iPhone 4 from iOS 7 to iOS 6.1.3? I downloaded iOS 7 beta thinking it would be good but I was sadly mistaken. This beta version has so many bugs that it's pretty much turned me off from iOS 7. I currently have iOS 7 beta version 2 and I downloaded iOS 6.1.3 iPhone 4 CDMA. After I control-clicked. A message popped up saying that the firmware was not compatible. I've double checked all the data in my iPhone and I'm pretty sure that I'm using the right software to download it. Can I have some help?
