Using iphone from usa in the uk?

My boyfriend lives in the USA and i live in the UK. He just got the newest iphone and we're wondering if i would be able to have her old iphone. What would i need to do to be able to use it in the uk? As there are different providers in each country, will i just get the iphone unlocked like normal?

Any information or websties are welcomed, thank you

Why don't you simply bring it over and see it it works.

Provider has nothing to do with it and thanks god days of separate mobile phones for different networks (CDMA, GSM, AMPS/D-AMPS) are long gone.

Have the phone unlocked. Once unlocked, it can be taken to the carrier of your choice. They will provide a new sim card. Turn, and program from there. Pretty simple. Best luck.
