What is DFU mode for iPhone 5 and what does it do?

What is DFU mode for iPhone 5? What happens when you go into DFU mode and what is the point?

Device Firmware Update mode is useful when you want to change the firmware information on the phone - and you already tried Recovery Mode and it didn't work. If you want to jailbreak the phone, you'll probably get to DFU.

  • What happens when you put your iphone into dfu mode when its turned on? I had my iphone on and put it into dfu mode( i think thats what its called ) but i held down the home and power button for ten seconds and then let go of the power button and continued to hold the home button for another ten seconds. My screen went black and now it won't turn on! I plugged it into itunes and restored it. Will that fix everything. If not help me please!

I have downloaded the ios 7 beta and occidentally erased everything off my device which mean it is now a 'New iPhone' set up page. I tunes is saying "the device is not registered as part of the iPhone developers program" I need to put my device in DFU mode but I can't because the lock button is not working. is there any way i can do this? I've tried to restore and it will keeps saying that an error has occurred. I've searched it on youtube and i've tried tinyumbrella or something like that and something else.
