What is taking up all of my iPhone's memory?

Ok, so my iPhone says I have 0 bytes of storage left. It said that 6.3 mb was being used. Now, I understand that 1.7 gigs is most likely being used up by firmware, updates, ect. However, when I calculated all of the space being used up in my storage, it came out to 1548.9 mb, which is roughly 1.5 gigs. So what in the HELL is using up the other 4.8 gigs?!

Could be your emails texts or game data, It did this with my htc 8s, I fixed the problem by backing up my phone and resetting it. Your phone saves random data and on a htc 8s I could only get rid of it by resetting it. I have to do it every few months.could be a software issue. Mine is

Likely the app data, media, Safari cache files, etc.

If anything try using PhoneClean (a desktop app) to clear some of it out. Free for Windows & Mac.

  • Will I use up all the iPhone 5 memory? Ok so I'm thinking about getting the iPhone 5. I have a 32gb iPod. I'm wondering if the iphone 5 16gb will hold like 2, 000 songs, like 200 pictures, and like 40-50 apps. How much can the 16gb iPhone 5 hold? If this phone doesn't have enough space for me, I'll probably get the Samsung Galaxy S3.
  • Why is other taking up 6.8 of my memory space on my iphone 5? On my iphone 5 "other" is taking up 6.8 of my data… What is this other and how do i reclaim my space? I've tried like resetting my phone and rebacking it up and stuff but nothing happened…
  • Why is my music taking up so much memory? I have a 32GB iPhone 4S and I have about 550 songs. Those songs amount to 10GB. My dad has the same phone with te same amount of songs but only takes up 5GB. The lengths of the songs are roughly the same. Why is it that my music takes up more memory?
  • Why is my iPhone taking up so much memory? I have an iPhone 16 gb with no music, and almost no apps (instagram and twitter, and I doubt that those are taking up all my memory). I don't have much photos and videos and I'm down to 1.1 gb.
