What's the proper way to update a jailbroken iphone?

So I have a 3GS which you must know, pretty old, especially because it is still on iOS 5.1.1 jailbroken.
And yesterday I tried updating it into iOS 6.6.1 via iTunes after backing it up on iTunes as well, but it is said that it couldn't be updated so I have to restore my iPhone first. But when I restored it, blue screen suddenly appeared and somehow I got the BIOS warning that said cache memory error. I succeeded in rescuing the files by backing it up and moved it into a new internal hard disk drive but now I'm afraid of updating my phone again and breaking my computer all over again. Seeing this condition, what do you think I should do?

I heard that I was supposed to reset all settings and turn off all the jailbroken tweaks but I didn't do that.

There's no way to do this without erasing all of your jailbreak tweaks, sorry.

Since iOS 7.1 came out, they will not let you update to anything other than the latest version (iOS 7.1.2), they are trying to do this to prevent jailbreaking in the first place but jailbreak teams are already up to date with loopholes in iOS. This means that you cannout update to iOS 6, only the latest version (iOS 7.1.2)

1. Back up your device with iCloud AND to you computer

2. Restore your device in iTunes

3. Update to iOS 7.1.2

4. Get the Pangu Jailbreak for ios 7.1.x: en.pangu.io

5. Done

I hope this helps, if something goes seriously wrong just restore from backup to the backup you made in the first step.

  • My iphone 4s won't update to ios 6.1.3 iphone is jailbroken? I want to undo my jailbreak, and every time i try to update, i get this message that says "there was a problem downloading the software for iphone "ericas iphone" the network connection timed out. I don't get what this means, i'm connected to Wi-Fi, i've tried everything i have my firewall off, i updated itunes, i don't know what else to do. I have even tried retstarting my phone and that message still pops up, ANY IDEAS!
