What would you do if you got someone else's package in the mail? (Continued)?

What would YOU do if you got someone else's package in the mail, and it just so happened to be something you've wanted for an extremely long time? Would you return it, or keep it? This hasn't happened to me, I'm just curious. And be HONEST. We're on the internet, and I'm pretty sure you are a stranger to me. Plus, I understand why you would keep it. I probably would myself. Be completely honest here, we're talking about that iphone 5 you've been saving up for since the day it came out, but just can't scrap up enough money for. Or, a brand-new, platinum edition of that sweet new game that just came out a few days ago. Remember, be honest with your answer.

Theft it theft

return to the post office

GREED does not justify theft

If there was no way to identify it like finding money on the ground, your good luck
finding money on the ground outside a bank that has just been robbed you Must return it

My honest answer is that I would return it to the sender or find the correct owner. I would not keep it no matter how badly I wanted whatever it is. Trust me, it will haunt you if you don't. Bad karma.

How would you know what it was unless you opened it? I have gotten mail and packages for other people before and I usually do one of two things: If it was delivered to the wrong address and the correct address is within a block or so, I'll take it to them. If it was way off or my address but not my name, I'll take it to the post office or call FedEX/UPS.

I don't open the package to see what it is so I certainly wouldn't know if it was something I wanted. Even if I did, that's not honest. I wouldn't want someone stealing my package, so I'm not going to steal theirs.

Return it to the post office

I would give it back to the post office

I would return it immediately to the post office, because I'm honest, and also because I have sympathy for the person who is the rightful owner waiting to receive it.

I had a friend asking me that once. I told him to return it. His reply was, what if the person already called and got a replacement already. It was a video game, and he really wanted to keep it. I never follow up and ask him what he did but his reasoning wasn't that bad…
