The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C are nearly identical besides the fact the the iPhone 5C has: a plastic back, better battery life than the 5, the front facing camera is better and the signal antennae is a lot stronger. So in total the iPhone 5C is better but if you don't want a plastic back get the iPhone 5. P. S. The plastic back is really durable and feels better than plastic.
On paper, the 5c due to battery & camera improvements.
