Who was in the wrong in this awkward scenario?

I went to a Verizon store today to pick out a new phone case. Here's how the conversation went with the salesmen. I greeted the first one and told him what I was looking for. The salesman walked me to the wall where the Iphone 5 cases were. There were only three or four different kinds of iPhone 5 cases.

-Me: Thank you
-Salesman: Can I help you pick out one? Are you looking for one in particular?
Me: No I'm ok (The salesman was still standing next to me) … I'm just looking around… (mid-sentence the salesman walked off.)

Another salesman walked up to me.

-2nd Salesman: Hey, can I help you find something?
-Me: I was wondering how much this phone case is *shows phone case with no price tag*
-2nd Salesman: That's $39.99.

That's when it got annoying. He then was saying he could see if I'm eligible for any discounts if he typed in my account number. I told him I'm not with verizon, and he kept telling me that if I gave him my information then he could see if I "might" be eligible for a discount. I was already annoyed with their whole system and I really just wanted to buy the phone case and go, but he wasn't getting the hint. I couldn't tell if he had really bad people skills or if he was just being a douche.

After a few minutes of being bothered I decided I didn't want to buy anything from these people, so I just told him "You know what, I'll just come back later today." As I was walking out, he made a B-line to a 3rd salesman and whispered about me.

Added (1). Of course I know it's a salesman's job to push merchandise on people, but I repeatedly hinted that I didn't want to sign up with them. He was talking so much that he wasn't giving me a chance to just look at the different phone cases.

That's just as bad as going in for a haircut. Before you're even at the desk, they're loudly asking for your name and number. Proper business decorum has taken back seat to hurry-up and make money. You at least could have bought your phone case online.

Here nobody is in the wrong
Those salesman are under LOTS of pressure by the company to sell and sell ; more and more
that why he became instant

People who make their livings on commission, who are DRASTICALLY financially punished for minor customer time-devotion priority errors, and whose lives are governed by "metrics," ARE going to suddenly decide you "need" attention.

And once they establish that interacting with you will not lower their liabilities or raise cash, they are JUST AS SUDDENLY going to decide you're not worth their attention.

To expect anything else is to ignore real life, either because you're too well-off to understand how reality is for MOST people, or because you're deliberately looking for another reason.

If you are looking for concern for you and your problems, you might consider raising them with a friend or family member. Or maybe a technical adviser in a non-capitalist economy.

But only an idiot looks for that from salespeople.

Here's the thing you need to know about salespeople: the discomfort you generally feel with them is the tiniest bit of guilt at turning them down, of trying to be nice and not hurt feelings. What you need to keep telling yourself is that you're nothing to him. Just a potential sale. Just a number. And so he is the same to you. Just say no. Then tell him you don't care to discuss it with him any longer. Be abrupt. It's okay.

As far as the "b-line"… How do you know what he was doing? And why does it matter?

Its their job they get paid to do this to you, they are salesmen trying to sell, its what their purpose is. The next time it happens somewhere just politely say 'no thank you, but i will let you know when i need assistance"

  • Would this honestly be awkward? I can't deny I have strong feelings for my guy friend (best friend to me.) This is kinda random-but I miss him much we both go to college-we have hung out a lot since but now it's been awhile. Having his picture as my wallpaper on my iPhone helps me get through those days. It's one of him looking up and smiling while laying back down I cropped the photo from one of his youth outings. How would he react if he accidentally saw that on my iPhone?
  • What to do, if I want to get the iPhone 6 in this scenario? My phone died. But I qualify for an upgrade at Verizon. Yet I don't want to sign a contract with Verizon because I want to wait for the iPhone 6. I've heard of straight talk, but have read terrible reviews about their costumer service. Any ideas as to what I should do in the meantime? I need a smart phone with a GPS that's for sure.
  • What's wrong with my eye? (picture)? It's a little hard to see, maybe, because my iPhone couldn't seem to get a good picture. It's like 3/4 blue/gray, and 1/4 hazel-brownish looking? What is it? And how rare is it? I've only seen animals with it, no people. I know people have it but I've never met a person with different colors in their eyes at the same time.
  • What happened on Awkward. Episode 203 three s a crowd? I have directv & they took MTV off air & I love the show Awkward. I wasn't able to watch last weeks episode & I'm really bummed! Is there a website that I can either read what happened or possibly watch the full free episode on an iPhone?
