Why can't i text an ipad with an iphone?

Been trying to text my friend for a month who has an ipad but my iphone never sends, WHY

Because an iPad is not a cell phone.

You can't text an iPhone.

You can set up each to link to an email address, and use iMessaging to sent messages that way

Of course you can. Just go into imessage settings and enter an email address (it will still text it, not email it, the email just is an identifier since the ipad isn't a phone). Once you do that, you text that email just like a phone number, and the ipad receives the text message popup. Make sure both have imessage turned on.

  • Why could i have gotten a text message with no text box? Yesterday morning, I looked at my smart phone ( android) and I got a text from someone. I clicked on the contact's text and there was no message, no blank bubble, nothing. It just looked like one of us was getting ready to start a conversation but no message was sent. (Extra info: I may be wrong but I think this certain contact has an iphone.) What could cause this? I don't want to ask the person because it would be extremely awkward.
