Why Does My Singing Voice Sound Good, but it Sounds Bad On Recordings?

My choir teacher and everyone who knows me says I have a good singing voice and even when we have a solo and ensemble festival in front of people we don't know they say I have a good voice and they all say I match pitch really good (they would tell you, if you have a bad voice) anyways when I record my voice on Voice Memos on my iPod and/or iPhone it sounds like crap! I don't know if I really do suck or if its the voice memos. I read that recordings are your real voice so do I really suck or is it something else?

It could be that everyone sounds weird on recordings. That's why many people respond with, "Do I really sound like that?!" when they hear themselves on answering machines. It also depends on the quality of the recording device. But perhaps, on the flip-side, you might not be so good and your family or friends are only just saying that to make you feel better. It's hard to tell people they suck at singing, so most of the time, they lie.
