According to apple an iPhone lasts around 3 years. So how come some iPhone 4 & 4s are still working?

Apple says iPhones works fine for around 3 years. But some people are still using their 5-6 years old iphone 4 & 4s. I'm using a 3 years old 5s and it is just performing amazingly. So how apple says these devices last only for 3 years. Is it their business trick to insist people to purchase a newer model?

The fact is that Apple devices seem to last almost forever. I know a guy that runs an 11 year old iMac. I still have (although don't use anymore) a 3rd gen (2007 or 2008) iPod nano. Works like new!

But of course, they need to sell their newer stuff… ï£

They are only supported that long after discontinuation. No updates by Apple and limited updates by app developers.

I don't know where Apple apparently said that, but iPhones, like any other phone last well beyond their useful timeframe with proper maintenance. IPhones usually get iOS updates for about 3-5 years & most apps still work on them after the fact.

The problem is with software, you can run only a few apps on older smartphones because they don't work with new iOS. Plus, if you will update on later iOS on older phones they will have lags
