Am I able to import pictures from my old iphone 3gs that has an expanded battery?

I've had the phone for about 4 years, I only used it for almost 3 years. I let it sit in my room, uncharged, for about 6 months. Even when I used the phone as an actual cell phone, it would die quickly. But i charged it and decided to use it as an ipod. I didn't use it again for another 4 months or so, and charged it again. I noticed the battery had expanded, enough for it to fully crack the back of the phone. I haven't tried to charge it again, I figured it would be useless and would probably damage the phone more. I have alot of pictures on this phone that I would like to import onto my laptop. Is this even possible now? Do I have to buy a new battery? Or would it be useless? This phone is filled with highschool memories.

As long as your computer can still recognize the iPhone when you plug it it, you can use a 3rd party software like this iPhone file transfer, it can help you copy the pictures, songs, videos from the iPhone to computer. It worked fairly well for me.
