Am I covered? Can I make a claim?

Ok so I lost my iphone on holiday my phone however was not insured, but I did get travel insurance, the insurance was just under £5 from protect my bubble, it said medical; 1000000 baggage; 1000 and excess £200. Can I make a claim?

Yes but you'll get 200 less than the value of the phone.

You can always make a claim; whether they pay is another matter.

Try reading the terms of your policy.

Make a claim anyway! The insurance company will either accept it or reject it. You won't know until you ask.

Speak to your travel insurers.

Excess means that you have to pay £200. If your phone was cheaper than that, then there's no point in claiming.

From what you've written if you lost some baggage (the exact definition should be in the paperwork somewhere) then if you claim you'll receive as a maximum the value minus 200 pounds. Whether the value is the price of a replacement phone, or what it was worth on the secondhand market when you lost it, again depends on the small print.

Remember that for the next 5 years or so you will be obliged to answer "yes" to insurers' questions as to whether you've ever made a claim, even if you claim but don't receive anything. This will possibly put your future premiums up considerably. This will come about because you'll have well shown that you're not all that good at looking after stuff.

You might like to have a look at your household insurance policy too (and credit card paperwork if you bought the phone using that) - it might give you better coverage, or might invalidate all or part of the bubble cover.

Also note that claims usually have to be submitted within a tight time frame.

All the best!
