Am I safe selling my iPhone on eBay?

I found a buyer who was willing to meet my asking price for my iPhone 6s. It's my first time selling on eBay so what can I do to ensure everything goes right for me? We reached an agreement over the phone price and he asked for my PayPal email. Does it seem right that they sent me a transaction through PayPal rather than through eBay? Does receiving an email from "service@paypal.com" discussing how I won't receive funds until I ship the phone sound right? I just don't want to be scammed so what can I do to protect myself?

Do NOT "go around" the ebay rules! If the person is legit, then he can bid on the item like anyone else; otherwise you will be ripped off

You NEVER give your Paypal email to anyone. This scammer is trying to get you to do an "offsite" transaction so you are NOT covered by Ebay and Paypal's seller protection
The buyer NEVER needs your Paypal details as they pay on Ebay. You DO NOT send anything until the item appears as PAID in your Ebay history AND you go to Paypal.com and see the money in your account. And you ONLY send to the address that shows up in your Ebay history once it has been paid. You are also only protected if you send to the buyer's verified address with a tracking number

This is a scam. You do not only get the money after you send it. That is a spoofed email. With Paypal it will appear in your account once it's been sent. You just can't withdraw that money for 21 days OR until the buyer leaves positive feedback. But if he sent the money it will show up when you go to Paypal.com

If there's NO money when you go to Paypal.com you've been scammed. DO NOT remove the listing. Your phone has not sold. Ignore the fake buyer and report him to Ebay as a scammer.

Never give your Paypal address to anyone for any reason on Ebay. That's why you use Ebay. If anyone asks for your Paypal address you say they don't need it and they have to pay on Ebay or NO SALE

Also if Ebay allows you to realist it, make sure your settings show you DO NOT accept bids from overseas and state in your ad that you ONLY ship to verified Paypal addresses in the US (or whichever country you are from). 99% of scam attempts will be from overseas bidders or people asking you to ship to an unverified address. If you ship to an unverified address, even if they pay they will claim their account got hacked and there's an unauthorized translation. EBay will contact you asking for signed proof of delivery to the buyer's verified address. You don't have this as they asked you to shop to another address, and Paypal refunds their money and their accomplice who you sent the phone to resells the phone for cash on Craigslist.

Phones, laptops and games consoles are the 3 items most likely to encoutner scam buyers on Ebay. You never sell anything expensive or electronic as your first sale - the scammers target newbies. Always sell a few cheap items first even if you don't make money to get feedback and learn how Ebay works

But this one is a scam and you need to report the buyer to Ebay As soon as possible and forward any email you got to spoof@paypal.com

  • Which is better: selling on amazon or selling on ebay? I have an individual seller account and I've noticed that my products sell much faster or ebay. However, I sold two iphones. My final sale fee $1100. However, ebay charged me a final sale fee of $135 Then I was charged $40 by paypal Then I paid $60 total to ship both items. On my amazon account I sold 1 phone. The phone cost $180 Amazon took out $30 Shipping cost $10 So I made $140
  • Selling verizon iphone 5 on ebay? I recently wanted to sell my iphone 5 on ebay but was wondering if that would be possible considering I'm still under contract and worried it might affect the esn status of the phone. The reason I'm selling it is because a friend on mine has an old galaxy s3 that he is willing to give to me clean ESN and everything, but I'm not sure if there would be any complications when I try to activate it through verizon and they see that I have an iphone under contract on my line.
  • Selling an iphone with bad ESN on ebay? Is it okay to sell a perfect conditioned iphone with a bad esn on ebay? What are the buyers options with the phone if they purchased it? Is it available to be jail broken or unlocked?
  • Selling a iPhone 4 on EBay - Scam I'm selling a IPhone 4 on eBay and a potential bidder is saying they wish to come and view the phone before bidding. This I have no problem with but they are adamant they want my phone number to ring me to arrange coming to see it… Why would they not be happy with my address? Is there a scam that they can run if they have my number?
