Apple Iphone earphones not working?

Ok so I recently just ordered some Iphone earphones from Amazon. The earphones are made by apple company specifically for Apple products.

Anywho. So I just bought these headphones and they are brand spanking new. I put them into my phone and they work when i play music, the remote works for the volume, and the earphones work when i'm on the phone (as in the hearing part of the headphones work), and the remote works for answering and hanging up. The only thing that doesn't work is the mic. When i'm on the phone, my friend says that he can't hear me but when i put the phone by my mouth he can. Then i tried to move the phone as far away as possible and talk into the mic and when i did he said he couldnt hear me or that i sounded far away. This kinda made me believe that the mic doesn't work. So i just wanna know what's wrong because everything else with these earphones seem to work except the mic and i figure that if the remote works then the mic should too.

The mic could be faulty. Sometimes they slip up a little bit in the factories. Your best bet is to contact Amazon or Apple and tell them. They're very understanding when it comes to that. Unless you get an a- hole on he phone. In that case just ask for the manager.
