Apple Product Purchase Advice?
I'm at a crossroads on what to do with my 'stuff'.
I own a 2008 17" macbook pro laptop that needs to be fixed. Genius bar prices a refurbish of the item at $350 since it is not yet a legacy item. I have done this in the past so I trust that I will get at least anoterh 4-5 years out of the device.
I also own an operational 2009 24" iMac desktop. The only not working is the cd rom ( an external is $79)
I just got for the holidays a Wi-Fi iPad mini valued at $500 along with th slim case another $50.
I don't use an iphone. I do graphic design sometimes and photography but strictly as a hobby or donation.
I assume i can return the mini to an apple store for credit. I'm not sure if the credit can be applied to svs (ie: pay them with the credit to fix my laptop).
Question: Get the store credit and buy a new laptop outright ($1200-1800 purchase btw)
or
fix my laptop and sell the desktop on ebay and use the apple credit for a larger ipad
or
sell my laptop broken on ebay, get the bigger ipad.
Why is this hard to decide? Well, I also own a kindle which is Wi-Fi enabled so keeping the mini is like haveing the same device twice. AND, i like my kindle i love Amazon Prime. Its way cheaper than itunes store for sure!

Since you do graphic design then I would buy a new laptop.
Sounds like you need a laptop, but unless you have the receipt or the person that bought the iPad mini originally with you at the Applestore (if that's even where they purchased it from), they won't refund it. IF they will refund for in store credit, that would be the best option to use that money towards a new MacBook in your situation.
- Why is apple so successful even when their product is not that revolutionary? Whenever apple comes with a product, a whole bunch of people try to preorder it. I have no problem with apple what so ever. How do they manage to get people to buy their things even when they are not the best out there? I mean the iphone 5 is like a book with a different cover. The newest ipad is the same thing. Do you think apple needs to make any changes to the hardware? To me, they have to change their operating system. People are tired of just swiping.
- Which apple product is better? IPhone or iPad? Choose one if you think one is better. Choose two if you like them both. It is just your opinion. I really want to see your comments.
- What's the difference from an OEM product and an original product? I need a new charger for my iPhone and I don't know if I should go buy an OEM charger from eBay or go buy an actual apple charger from Walmart that's going to be way more expensive. Since OEM is basically the same thing without retail packaging, would there be a difference in quality?
- What does jailbreaking an apple product mean? I have heard about people who jailbreak their iphones or ipads or ipods and i have always wondered what that means as i don't have an iphone just an ipod which i'm pretty happy with. Just curious Thanks but how does it break it? Does it load a virus on it or can you not load it anymore. I also have heard of peoples apple products stop working after awhile but i never understood how exactly
