Are Black Friday and Cyber Monday international holidays?

No, it's just a tradition by retailers to list sales.

It's called "Black Friday" because it's when many stores's accountings go from being in the red to the black. Meaning, after the sale, they are netting a profit for their annual report.

Black Friday in't much of a shopping opportunity nor are you guaranteed the best price of the year. It mostly emphasizes electronics, though most retailers will do some sort of sale.

Apart from very limited "door buster" deals, most sales aren't that impressive. A "door buster" item is one that is advertised as significantly lower than the normal price to entice people to come to the store. Best Buy often has a door buster television. Last year, I believe it was a 50 inch tv for $150. Often, a special model of a product is made specifically for this sale and has subpar quality. Of course, their supply is intentionally kept very small and most people won't get it. They will probably stay in the store and buy something else. Hence "door buster," get people in the door.

I see it as the start of a new price bench mark on electronics. On and after Black Friday, prices for electronics drop to new a relative market price. Prices will drop further as the year progresses, but this is the start and biggest dip of the year. It will take a couple months for prices to resemble Black Friday deals. Since electronics depreciate so fast, buying an electronic during Black Friday means having it in your possession a few months more than if you waited for the price to drop.

For example, I bought my iphone 5S on Black Friday last year for $350. The price after Black Friday only climbed to $379 when before it was selling for $400+. By the spring, the phone was already selling for much lower than $350, the black friday deal. By purchasing my phone in November, I was able to spend the same money ($350) I would have spent later in the year when the phone dropped to $350. However, by purchasing it on Black Friday, t I was able to have it longer. I could have waited, but electronics depreciate and if you wait too long, it becomes outdated technology. Duh welcome to retail America LOL $3 blu rays best buy cyber Monday check that one off! No. They are not even holidays in the US. They are named because if shopping events. We just started Black Friday shopping events in southern Ontario to take advantage of Americans coming over the border to shop because of the low Canadian dollar. Again it's not a holiday just a sales promotion. All this preoccupation with material possessions does not bring happiness. Just a temporary distraction from the emptiness in people's lives.

  • Virgin Mobile Iphone 5s? Black Friday or Cyber Monday? I have decided that I want to buy the iPhone 5s that Virgin Mobile is offering. Since Black Friday and Cyber Monday are right around the corner I was thinking that I could just buy it that day. The only problem is that I was wondering if anyone knew if they would be marking down this phone? If you know (or even if you don't) what day would be better to buy it? Black Friday or Cyber Monday?
  • Should I wait to buy the iPhone 8 after the holidays? I have an iPhone 6 and with no contract and I have an amazing deal. I pay $67 for 10gb! I really want to get the iPhone 8 but I don't want to get a new plan because they don't have the one I have anymore ( it was a limited time offer). I have the money for the 8 but I'm not sure if the Apple store in Canada will have have their phones on sale for either Boxing Day or Black Friday. Should I wait after the holidays that way it gives me an idea how much money I'll have?
  • Online vs instore black friday prices? I would want to know if in black friday the deals are the same online as in stores because the lines and people in stores is bigger than the president's thanksgining dinner. I need some help in this because i'm not relly experienced with black fridays.
