Are iphones that one can buy in the US assembled in China, too?
I mean do iphone bodies there contain "designed in California and assembled in China" too?

Yes they are made in China by US corporations and put "designed in California" on there because Chinese know Americans don't like buying a Chinese product.
Yes, all iPhone are made in china. I think motorola phones are the only ones I know of that are made in the USA. The logo "designed in california" is just marketing gimmick to make you feel better of your purchase.
Apple does all its product design, software development, management, and marketing procedures in the US The assembly is done in china. Even the sapphire camera lens and thumbprint are designed and built in Arizona.
