Atheists, how did natural selection give us extra abilities?

Such as extremely high intellect, curiosity, the delusion of a God, appreciation of beauty, humor, artistic ability, altruism, scientific understanding, abstract thinking, rationality, and the delusion of an objective moral code?

All evolution does is balance everything out over time, and make things fall into synchronization. If we evolved from lower life forms, at best we should be able to jump over streams & catch fish, we shouldn't be able to study the entire universe like we do.

Saying "it just happened" isn't enough for me. It's more reasonable to assume that things were deliberately rigged for us to be this way, since Natural Selection should have killed the slightly moral people off before we ever got the chance to evolve into these ultra intellectuals. Creatures like us coming from far quantitatively lesser beings is at slim-to-none odds. It's easier to believe that an IPhone accidentally evolved from a scrap pile.

How do you reconcile your own Image of God with chance-motivated evolution?

There are lots of excellent works on the subject of your question, but the short answer for this forum is that even minor changes, evolutionarily, can have significant ripple-effects. More upright stance leads to free hands, which leads to tinkering and tool making. Pack hunting leads to planning which leads to complex communication which drives the growth of intellect which further drives tool making and planning.

Or… Gee, some invisible skyfairy just magicked the whole universe into being in the blink of an eye, right?
