Best electronic to video tape with?

I want to make like a v-log type of video and I was debating whether or not I should use my iPhone 6SE or my nikon coolpix l340. Any one know which one's best?

The Coolpix camera would be great - if you were working from behind the camera shooting someone else. It does not have an active HDMI output that I can see so you can't hook up a field monitor you can see from the front. The screen does not flip-out 180 degrees so you can't see how you are framed in the image.

The Coolpix will not work well as a self-vlog camera.

Use the iPhone.

Don't forget you probably want a lavilear microphone, a clamp and a tripod for the iPhone and perhaps an external digital audio recorder to give you better, more focused sound. Audio from across the room sucks unless you invest in some type of shotgun microphone.

Just video, no tape?

The right tool is a camcorder. Sony Handycam makes good cheap ones.

There's a lot to what makes a device good or bad for something. The final product, in this case the video, is of course a major concern. But what most people don't realize is that the way the device works is more important than image quality. For example, if one camera has outstanding image quality but will overheat in 3-5 minutes, what good is it?

Your phone and especially your L340 are certainly capable of making videos, but that's not what the engineers had in mind when designing them.

Depending upon what you want to do with the device and your workflow, you may find that one is better than the other, or that both or are fine or that both are completely unusable.

The only way you'll know is to test them both out in a variety of lighting situations and video lengths.
