Best free program for Pixel Art?

I'm looking for a program that gives you a grid and a square 1x1 brush. All the stuff I download will not allow a square brush. Gimp 2.8 doesn't agree with my machine so that is out of the question. I looked all of the internet and the stuff I find are terrible. I want a simple place a colored square here and another color over there type of program. (I know there are apps for this, but I can't afford an Iphone).

PS: A download link not on softonic or sourceforge please I don't want viruses

Graphicsgale does have keyboard shortcuts and is pretty ideal for animations if you decide to get into that.

Almost anything can be used for pixel art as long as you steer clear of certain tools not used with the medium though.

MS Paint, zoom in, no grid sorry.

If you want a grid, it's either GIMP or Adobe Photoshop - your choice.

It's a pity you can't get GIMP to work, it's ideal for the job. Here's a screen shot with the default grid showing (changed to 1 px), zoomed in to 4500%, and the pencil tool set to the 1px brush

  • Would it be okay to put logos of other companies in without permission in my art? I'm joining this nationwide art competition in my country with the theme of "consumerism." I'm planning on putting an iPhone on my artwork but instead it will say iDiot. Will designing it in a slightly altered way avoid lawsuits? Do you think the competition will reject my entry if they saw a representation of the iPhone? It will not be the main object in my piece, just a little accessory. Like really small.

On my iTunes it had the correct cover art but when it's on my phone the cover art from songs I've had that are now deleted are on the songs.
