Best virtual machine software for Windows 7 guest OS on native Ubuntu Linux?

I think a virtual machine will suit me better than dual boot because I'm not really a "gamer." It would be a perk if some of our "Tycoon" type games for 7/XP worked but I won't be heartbroken if they don't. The main things I need to run in a Windows 7 VM are Rosetta Stone, iTunes (I have an iPhone so I need it) and Scrivener, none of which run well in Wine.

So… VirtualBox, VMWare or Parallels?

I have a laptop with 16GB ram, intel i7 and 240GB ssd if that makes a difference.

Added (1). Not really helpful, ARTHURZI. I like Ubuntu Linux for many reasons and for professional reasons it makes the most sense for my native OS. And I already have a legit copy of Windows 7… Waiting to be installed in a VM. I wouldn't run Windows at all if I didn't have a need for a couple specific programs that don't have Linux equivalents and don't work well in WINE.

So… Anybody want to answer the actual question and recommend a virtualization program?

I've never had problems with virtual box, and it's free to boot.

I use Oracle VM VirtualBox under Windows XP & have never had a problem. It's available for Ubuntu 8.04 to 12.10.

  • What's the best Virtual Reality Headset for an iPhone 5? So I recently bought the Free Fly VR Headset. It was very comfortable, but my iPhone 5 would be very pixelated inside the headset. I was wondering if anyone knew of a headset around $100 (or less) that could fit my iPhone 5 great.
