Bose V35 and iPod touch 5/iPhone 5 compatibility?

I have the Bose V35 home theater surround system. It came with a 30 pin dock for iphones up to i4. I purchased the Apple "Lightning to 30 pin adapter" so i could connect my ipod touch 5. I get a message on the ipod saying "This accessory not supported by ipod". The Bose displays a message "ipod connection error. Please re-insert your ipod." Both the ipod touch 5 and Bose V35 have the latest software updates. Can anyone help shine some light on my problem? Is this a Bose software issue or Apple support issue? I spend 3000 INR on this adapter as recommended from the Bose Store. Id like some justification.

The adapter is counterfeit.

The real ones work fine, the clone / counterfeit ones give that message.
(I use a genuine one on a Sony 30 pin dock with my iphone 5).

They are not just a pin adapter, the Lightning port is a data bus connection and anything that connects to it contains active interface electronics to produce the signals for whatever is required - Audio, USB, HDMI, VGA, Memory cards etc.

Without a real Apple licenced chip, the fake interfaces don't work properly - or at all.
