Yes, but only by the recipient.
Of course.
If it is on your iPhone, click on Messages, scroll down to the message you want to delete and then swipe it to the left.
You'll get two options then showing: Hide Alerts and Delete.
If you decide that you wish to use neither option then just touch the message again and those options will vanish leaving the message as it was before you swiped on it.
