Can an Iphone from Verizon be connected to any other carrier?

A friend of mine gave me his iphone it was previously connected to Verizon but I was wondering if I could connect it to Simple Mobile or metro pcs etc. Its a iPhone 4 by the way thanks for the help

If Verizon unlocked the phone, then yes. I have an AT&T iPhone, and I had it unlocked by AT&T, so I use it with a prepaid service. If it's not unlocked, then your friend will have to call Verizon and put in the request to have it unlocked. Usually if the contract has expired, then they will do it for no charge, but I'm pretty sure the account holder has to be the one to do it. You can always call Verizon and ask someone from customer service.

It won't work with a carrier that uses SIM cards, because the Verizon iPhone 4 doesn't have a SIM slot (I had one so I know).

But some carriers *might* be able to "flash" (reprogram) the phone to work on their network - you'll just have to ask them.

P.S. Starting with the iPhone 4S, Verizon did add a SIM slot to the iPhone. But it only works when the phone is outside the USA, and even if you unlock it, it still only works outside the USA. That's different from AT&T iPhones where once you unlock it you can use any SIM anywhere.

An iphone 4? No it can't. Verizon used a CDMA only model. It wasn't until the iphone 4s that had both GSM and CDMA antennas. It is up to the other CDMA carriers whether they will activate the phone on their network. They more than likely will not.
